Danny Porter Foundation pleased to make two £10,000 awards

The Danny Porter Foundation recently announced the donation of £10,000 each to the two Sheffield charities it pledged to support; Weston Park Cancer Charity and Neurocare.

The funds were raised during the From Surgeon to Surgery bike ride last summer. A 22-strong team underwent the mammoth 300 mile cycle which linked Dan’s surgeon, Dr. Jeremy McMahon who now works at Southern General Hospital in Glasgow and finished at Weston Park Hospital, Sheffield – the facility where he was treated.  The cycle was dubbed from Surgeon to Surgery and marked the fifth anniversary of Dan’s successful brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his cheek.

Danny Porter commented; “I’m so pleased and proud to have raised these funds that go directly to support these charities for the local area.  I strongly believe that being able to be treated near my family and friends helped me to fight my battle with cancer.  My worst fear was that I would not live to see my children grown up and I feel so fortunate to be here and to be able to enjoy life.”

The Danny Porter Foundation believes that to successfully battle cancer first and foremost, state of the art equipment and top class surgeons are necessary, but equally it’s important to surround yourself with positive support and friendly faces.  That’s why the Danny Porter Foundation is to provide donations and grants to other charities providing research, support, care and equipment to people suffering from cancer and/or requiring neurological surgery.  The Foundation is also designed to give hope, support and reassurance to others in similar positions through the telling of Danny’s story.
