First day completed for Surgeon to Surgery riders

Well, that's the first day of From Surgeon to Surgery done! The team of 22 riders set off in glorious sunshine from Southern General Hospital in Glasgow this morning, successfully completing the 73 miles to the first overnight stop at Johnstonebridge.

The perfect riding conditions complemented the mood of the riders, with everbody excited to be finally getting underway. Morale was also boosted by the news that the fundraising total had reached £16,500 overnight.

Riding as one large group out of Glasgow, the group were met by beeping horns and waves from drivers and pedestrians as they cycled along in their Danny Porter Foundation shirts. Once out of the city, the riders were free to ride at their own pace with the more experienced tapping out a pacy 19mph average, as other groups rode at comfortable paces for themselves.

Despite many tired legs at the finish, it was smiles all round and plenty of 'banter' as everybody congratulated each other on a successful first day.

More reports and (hopefully) photographs will be posted tomorrow.
