S2S rider uses inspiration to go End to End
Peter Cholerton, one of the riders who took part in the From Surgeon to Surgery ride last year, is back on his bike for another fund raising challenge. This time Peter takes on the mammoth challenge of cycling ‘end to end’ – 950 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End on the Delloite Ride Across Britain!
Peter told us; “In memory of, and inspired by, my wife Irene and my Dad, both of whom passed away in 2010 I have entered the Delloite Ride Across Britain which is 950 miles from John O'groats to Land's End in just 9 Days from the 11th to the 19th of June. Even though I'm an enthusiastic cyclist and a (relatively) fit guy, this is going to be a really tough challenge!”
Although Peter was one of the stronger riders from Glasgow to Sheffield last year, he’s not been taking the training for such a big event lightly; “For several months now I've been ramping up the training so if you see me with a slightly 'spaced out look' on my face and walking with a somewhat strange gait, then don't be surprised. In late April, for example, I cycled from Sheffield to my sister's in High Wycombe, which is about a 380 mile round trip, to try and get some miles in my legs!”
Peter of course completed our ride on a tandem with his wife Irene, following a last minute change of plans when Irene hurt her wrist and couldn’t grip her handlebars. The question is will he be able to cope without Irene’s legs subsidising on hills!
We are very grateful that Peter has decided that 80% of the sponsorship he raises will be going to Danny Porter Foundation, which will help us fund some of the great initiatives we have coming up to support cancer, sufferers, survivors and their families. The other 20% of his sponsorship will go to the official charity of the event, Paralympics GB who are of course great supporters of people who overcome their disabilities to play sport, something we enthusiastically encourage.
