What was your first bike?
A Raleigh of some sort. It had one gear only and you had to wind the peddles backwards to brake…that was the only braking method, but it was great for back wheel skids!!
How do you know Dan?
Originally through the Sheffield rugby club.
Before you started training, when was the last time you cycled?
Do spinning classes in the gym count?...otherwise the odd half day out on the mountain bike strictly when the sun’s out of course.
Why have you decided to do this challenge?
Because I was asked, and Danny is a great mate and it’s a pleasure to support his charity. It’s brilliant how he was treated and the extent of his recovery, and we must help to keep this kind of treatment improving.
What are you most looking forward to?
The end of course!!... being able to say that I did it.
What are you most worried about?
Saddle sores, the same as everyone else I’m sure.
What do you want to achieve from this experience?
All that matters is the success of the trip for Danny and his charity, I’ve no personal goals or Ben Nevis’s to climb in this arena.
How are you preparing for the challenge?
Well I’ve borrowed a Boardman road bike from another mate for the challenge (thanks JK), and have done my first 15mile ride. It has reminded me about my winter laziness and general apathy to training in recent weeks, and so I’m now on a crash diet, interspersed with an intense CV training program. Those who know me know that there’s trouble ahead for my body when I put my mind to it like this !.
Tell us something interesting about yourself?
Who do you think I am..Al Cotton or something?
Who do you most hope to be mistaken for whilst cycling?
The postman.
