What was your first bike?
A red commando with three gears.
How do you know Dan?
He has been my best friend since we played mini-rugby together when we were 7 years old. I was his best man, and he is God father to my boy. And he is still an inspiration to me!
Before you started training, when was the last time you cycled?
Started training? I have not got my Bike yet but it can’t be that hard can it?
Why have you decided to do this challenge?
Dan told me to! Five years ago we played a rugby match…15 former Internationals against Danny’s beloved Sheffield to raise money and this will be our next adventure.
What are you most looking forward to?
Spending time on the road with the boys. I have always dreamed of doing something extreme with my mates and this will be my chance.
What are you most worried about?
Joking apart, I need to get some serious training done if I am to survive this challenge. Since retiring from rugby I have been to too many dinners and I don’t want to let anyone down.
What do you want to achieve from this experience?
Have fun with some great guys and enjoy taking the time away from work and enjoy being an ‘athlete’ again.
How are you preparing for the challenge?
Working with my corporate mates to make the most of this opportunity to raise as much money as possible for the Charity whilst ensuring they get a great return on their investment.
Tell us something interesting about yourself?
I played Professional rugby for 6 Clubs over 10 years and represented the Barbarians, England and the British Lions. But becoming a Dad and earning respect as a partner, and as a friend is so much more important than all that.
Who do you most hope to be mistaken for whilst cycling?
I just hope the seat doesn’t kill me!
